Abstract

Pessimism has remained the subject of discussion with different Urdu writers of the subcontinent, particularly, Pakistani writers. Siddique Salik’s novel “Pressure Cooker” is one of those novels that represent the pessimist Articles of a deprived class of the Pakistani society. These Artists are helpless in front of social injustices and inequalities. Moreover, they (Artists) are unable to depict the issues of their societies. The novel shows how the society has banned their freedom of thinking and expression. Further, it also reveals that those artists who follow the traditional tides become successful, but others, like central character of the novel, Fitrat, who are men of principles, realists, helpful and have courage to say no to cruel forces and destined to pessimism.
